The Last of Fall

At first I saw buildings, & for a long time, that's all I could see. They were strong, lasting, & held their pride as they swelled to the sky. Then I saw shops with wine & meat, with cheeses of all kinds, & pastries too. I saw cafe au lait, small cups of expresso, & tea with honey. I saw street corners with old men smiling, I saw a large city park where dogs ran free, & I saw tree leaves clinging desperately; their colors changing from brash orange to muted lemon, to withering away altogether. A moment, a season, gone once again.

I saw an opera from a box & a symphony conductor spring into motion. I saw a castle in Vienna & I see the same grand church at my metro stop every day. I saw a heart turn to stone more than one time within the cold November air. I saw a stirring inside of me that needed something new. & now when I look in the mirror, I can barely see my old self.

It was hard to document October & November tangibly. The months were filled with scattered moments from everywhere, like torn pieces of paper dancing in the wind together at once. But I can still see it all, every bit of paper, in my mind. I can see it & it all comes flooding back.
